The beginner friendly pattern design, VALLEY slip dress, is inspired by the lines of rolling hills and mountains. The front hem of the dress curves up like a hill while the back hem swoops down, creating the drop of a valley. It is a classy slip-on dress which is easy to make and alter.
Bren Larsen is a mother of five and a self-taught sewist, an owner of 20th and Ives, an organic children’s clothing company.

Fit and size:
The VALLEY dress is designed to be comfortable and relaxed. The back hem hits mid-calf. choose your size based on your bust measurement. Add a recommended positive ease of 2.4–4.7"/6–12 cm.Kaisa Alingué is 67"/169 cm tall and wears VALLEY dress in size 3 in camel. Kreettaliisa Rahkamaa-Alingué is 67"/170 cm tall and wears size 4 in black.
Fabric recommendations:
Choose accordion velvet, pleated velour, or an accordion knit. For warm weather, a pleated silk or pleated chif- fon may be more suitable. Both sample dresses are made from pleated jersey in camel and black (65% polyester and 35% viscose, 7.37 oz/250 gsm) from Un chat sur un fil.Note:
Velvets/velours and plissé fabrics do not fray and can be difficult to hem. To keep the rounded hems of this dress clean-looking, we recommend leaving the hem unfinished. If your fabric is easy to work with and you would like to hem it, go ahead! Since this pattern doesn’t include a hem, remember to add length when cutting your fabric if you plan to do a folded hem. The suggested added length for a standard hem is 2 cm. -
