The MULA trousers are inspired by the plaids and boxy silhouettes popular in the 1960s, this design offers uncomplicated style. You can wear these simple trousers in multiple ways: leave the legs loose or button them up for a harem pants style. Pair them with mules, high heels, ankle boots, or sneakers – whatever suits your look! There’s lots of room to vary the style depending on the fabric you choose: consider twill or jersey for summer, flannel or wool for autumn and winter.

Andini Wijendaru is a maker based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She gets inspiration for her designs from the heritage of textile-making and artisans’ work. You can find Andini’s pattern designs also from issue No. 4.

Fit and size:
Choose your size based on your waist circumference. Add a recommended positive ease of 0.8–2.4"/2–6 cm.

Kaisa Alingué is 67"/169 cm tall and wears MULA in size 3.

Fabric recommendations:
Choose medium-weight flannel, twill, wool, or even knitted fabrics for a draping style. Heavier fabrics such as hemp or canvas will result in a more articulated look. Keep in mind that when working with heavier fabrics, you might need to use another fabric or bias tape to create the belt loops.

The beige sample is made from undyed and unbleached “Hemp Twill Natural” (100% hemp, 9.73oz/330 gsm) from Siebenblau. The blue sample is made from “100% Wool Suiting Fabric” (3.83 oz/130 gsm) in navy blue from Minerva.

Files:
