Pattern Designs for Issue No.3

All the designs are available in the Issue No.3 with actual size patterns and step by step guidelines. The patterns come in 9 sizes, from bust width 31” / 7cm to 57.5” / 146cm. Read more about the sizing HERE

SWING by Kaisa Rissanen
The SWING dress design is created by the co-founder of TAUKO Magazine, Kaisa Rissanen. It is easy to make, a real classic slip-on design with a wide, hand-pleated hem and practical pockets. You can adjust the hem to different lengths – make it mini, midi, or maxi, according to your personal preference. When designing the dress Kaisa was thinking back to her childhood, the long summer days playing at the summer cottage by a lake with her best friend, wearing pleated dresses on top of swimsuits. With the rhythm of the waves on the pleated hem, SWING is the perfect piece for a weekend away!

The checkered sample dress is made from “Carolina” (100% linen, 5.9 oz/200 gsm) by Merchant & Mills. The blue sample is made from a vintage cotton/ polyester blend (4 oz/140 gsm) that used to be a bed linen.

MÉLISSE by Brittani Bumb
For Brittani Bumb clothing represents freedom and the expression of confidence. This is what she wants other people to feel when they sew her patterns. She designed MÉLISSE to be an outfit that effortlessly catches the summer air in its flowing hem.

MÉLISSE is a three-in-one design that you can easily alter to fit your personal style. You can adjust the skirt length using the “lengthen/Shorten” lines to transform this super beachy dress into one that’s perfect for everyday wear. The options for customizing this top, skirt, and dress are truly endless!

The green sample dress is made from “Crepe Sage” (100% organic cotton, 3.2 oz/110 gsm) by Les Trouvailles d’Amandine. The sample top and skirt are made from a stonewashed hand-printed crepe de chine (100% silk, 16.5 mm, approximately 2.1 oz/60 gsm) by A Verb for Keeping Warm.

LILA by Ivona Fodora:
Serbian fashion designer Ivona Fodora made her debut as a pattern designer in the first issue of TAUKO Magazine, which featured her special pleated designs. These much-loved pleats make a comeback in the LILA and VIOLET designs.

You can make the LILA design as a dress or blouse. The eye-catchers are the two pleated bands that are placed on top of the base asymmetrically. The bands fall over the shoulders, creating small, pleated sleeves. Their placement can be modified and adapted to the wearer’s preference, giving the maker the freedom to be creative.

The sample LILA top is made from double gauze "Lange à rayures écru" (4.4 oz/150 gsm) by Les Trouvailles d’Amandine.

RIKA by Lisa Oberländer:
Lisa Oberländer grew up in the centre of the creative hub of Berlin, surrounded by the many different people who have come to the city since the 1990s. From a very young age, she wanted to become a designer, and she recently graduated from the fashion design programme at UdK Berlin.

During her studies, Lisa became interested in the vintage boilersuits she spotted on the streets and in thrift stores. The RIKA boilersuit is inspired by the materials, details, and traces of use in the second-hand boilersuits she collected as part of her research.

The RIKA jumpsuit comes in two variations: full length with knee patches and summery shorts. This is a comfortable and unique jumpsuit that fits all different body types regardless of size or gender.

The full-length sample is made from “8 oz Washed Dark Denim” (100% cotton, 8 oz/225 gsm) by Merchant & Mills. The shorts are made from “Tangerine Dreams” (100% linen, 5.9 oz/200 gsm) by Merchant & Mills.

VIOLET by Ivona Fodora:
VIOLET is the second design Ivona Fodora created for the issue No.3. It features the same pleating technique as LILA and also has the same base pattern – you can make it as a top or dress. It’s a flirty and festive creation inspired by the movement and flow of pleated fabric and the interactions between plain and pleated surfaces. As a versatile statement piece, it’s perfect to wear throughout the year.

The off-the-shoulder sleeves are created by making irregular knife pleats around the arm, and they’re the highlight of the design. The garment is constructed using an A-line base dress or a top that fits various body types.

The VIOLET sample dress and blouse are made from an exquisite hand-printed crepe de chine (100% silk, 16.5 mm, approximately 2.1 oz/60 gsm) by A Verb for Keeping Warm.

HADAL by Sophie Hines:
Sophie Hines is an American designer whose comfy lingerie sewing patterns are inspired by androgynous styling, strong lines, and ocean science. She describes herself as being the nerdiest nerd about fabric, sewing, and making things in general. Sophie loves learning new techniques and the scientific explanations for what makes different fabrics act the way they do, and she seriously loves trying to make things perfect.

The HADAL lounge set includes a swing top and high- cut briefs. They are presented as a plain version and an ocean version with design lines inspired by the hadal zone (also known as the hadopelagic zone) – the deepest region of the sea. ade with a panelled construction, these lines offer intriguing possibilities for visual depth, sheer fabrics, and tonal colour explorations.

For the plain version of HADAL, we used a 95% organic cotton, 5% elastane blend fabric (6.5 oz/220 gsm). The ocean version is made from a 96% bamboo, 4% elastane blend fabric (6.2 oz/210 gsm). Both fabrics are by 1000stoff Berlin.

MALLOW by Gaëlle Martin:
Gaëlle Martin is a French ready-to-wear and knitwear designer living in Berlin. Before working as a fashion designer she was a costume assistant. This experience left her with a pas- sion for vintage fashion photography. In 2017, she cofounded martin de Siqueira design studio and is an active member of the sustainable and innovative event house PLATTE.Berlin.

When designing the MALLOW sweater, Gaëlle wanted to create a cosy and accessible design, fitting for a large range of bodies – with a vintage twist. The patchwork details are a nod to the romantic imagery of the 1970s captured by the photographer Sarah moon. You can make the MALLOW sweater in two variations: long- sleeved and T-shirt-sleeved.

The sample sweaters are made from an organic French terry cotton (7.7 oz/260 gsm) and a 95% organic cotton, 5% elastane rib (13 oz/440 gsm), both by Lebenskleidung.

PANEL by Mila Moisio:
Mila Moisio’s PANEL trousers are inspired by the Bauhaus school of art and design. Bauhaus artists like Gunta Stölzl were revolutionary in developing innovative weaving techniques and forms of artistic expression. Stölzl’s sense of colour and rhythm has been an endless source of inspiration for Mila.

The PANEL trousers, particularly their colour blocks and straight-cut lines, are inspired by the geometrical, balanced aesthetics of female Bauhaus artists. The design invites you to create colourful, bold, and playful experiments that look back to the influential designers and artists who worked to gain artistic freedom over 100 years ago.

The sample trousers are made from “Getti organic raw chambray” (4.5 oz/152 gsm) and the shorts are made from “Nisa Softened linen” in dry mustard (6.3 oz/180 gsm) by Mind the maker

HELMI by Johanna “Jo” Morris and Rebekah Foley-Read
The HELMI blouse is a collaboration between Jo and Rebekah Foley-Read, a fellow designer from Wellington, New Zealand. Rebekah and Jo’s common ground as collaborators is their shared passion for practical garments with playful and sweet elements, grounded by a passion for slow fashion.

The HELMI blouse draws from Victorian- inspired style influences. It’s a demure, understated take on the ruffles and ornamentation that define the style, but with enough flourish to catch the eye. Choose a Peter Pan collar or a stand collar and customize the level of frill you want to suit your style! If you’d like to add more detail to the Peter Pan collar, try adding trims to the seam at the collar’s edge.

The blue sample is made from “Sebastian” (100% linen, 5.9 oz/200 gsm) by Merchant & Mills. The white sample is made from “Crepe Ecru” (100% organic cotton, 3.2 oz/110 gsm) by Les Trouvailles d’Amandine.

MIRA by Jess Lucas:
The MIRA by Jess Lucas is a medium-sized bucket bag inspired by the relaxed bags of the 1970s. The key elements of the design are stripes, checkerboard squares, and diamonds – traditional quilting shapes.

The MIRA bag is a great project to try quilting for the first time since it features various different types of piecing. It’s a great skill-building project that also includes some hard- ware techniques.

UNIFORM by Oroma Cookey-Gam:
Nigerian designer Oroma Cookey-Gam swears by local manufacturing when it comes to making clothes. Together with her husband Osione Itegboje, she is the founder of the clothing label THIS IS US. They have put their experience in fashion and graphic design into establishing a label wedded to promoting homegrown and traditionally dyed indigo cotton from the northern regions of Nigeria.

The UNIFORM dress pattern made for this issue is inspired by a ready-to-wear kaftan dress that is part of the uniform-wear collection by THIS IS US. It’s a smart, unisex design featuring hidden buttons, a lean cut, and practical pockets. With an open neckline and long slits on the sides, it’s perfect for the gentle summer breeze. The minimalist style makes it a natural choice for an elegant yet formal look while still maintaining comfort. This is a garment that every sewist can cherish in daily life.

The blue sample dress is made from “Nisa Softened Linen” in indigo night (6.3 oz/180 gsm) by Mind the Maker from METERMETER. The pale pink sample is made from a vintage cotton that used to be a bed linen.
